Sustainability journal

 7/23

In Leman family sustainability this week:

🚄 Transportation is arguably the biggest cause of warming emissions in the US. Public transit is cheaper (for us) than driving, safer, and better for the yucky air. Yeah, it takes longer here in Utah, but people all over the world do it...you just get used to planning it into your day! The more demand,  the better officials schedule to meet it. Today Clara and I rode the train to....

👩‍🌾 ...the Farm at Gardner Village, a farm animal rescue center/petting zoo where kids can volunteer!

⛈ We finally got some rain, so I was able to see my barrels in action! I estimate we collected 170+ gallons in the couple of storms we had this week. My trees and plants will be happy in a few days when it's dry again!

♻️ I finally remembered to bring some my plastic bags in for recycling. I try to remember to bring my reusable bags into the store, but I'm still super bad at it. I wondered if Smith's or Walmart even actually recycles them or if it's all PR. But it turns out there's at least a decent chance they do get recycled, often into decking material like Trex. Who knew?

🍑 Harvest time! Our peaches are small but tasty and will give us sweet organic pies and cobbler all year...better clean out my freezer to get ready...
