End of an Era
Cookie-Nut has learned how to climb out of her crib. (Cue "Thus Spake Zarathustra"). Goodbye, easy bedtimes, it was nice knowin' ya. Say hello to your friends "naptime" and "free- time-during-the-day."
(What follows is a baby sleep blow-by-blow. For my own record only, really. I know it's not terribly interesting to anyone else!)
CN actually fell out of her crib trying to get out at naptime today. She wasn't hurt, though her ankle got caught between the rungs, poor thing--she eventually fell asleep in DB's bed. But we dismantled the crib tonight and put her mattress on the floor. She wouldn't stay in bed, of course--after putting her down about 10 times, I shut the door so she couldn't open it. When I thought she was tired enough to stay down, I laid her down again and sat in the rocking chair, hoping she'd stay there. Big mistake!! She did, for a while--but then got up and started playing and taking off her jammies. So I put her in some PJs she couldn't remove and left, shutting the door again. This time she was really mad, and took quite a while to settle down.
But, sometime in the middle of the Madonna episode of Glee, she stopped crying. We let her be for a while. When we finally dared to peek, I was worried she was leaning right against the door--but no, she was peacefully sleeping on her bed. Hallelujah! And wearing her shoes, for some reason. She loves putting on shoes. I can just imagine her, bawling but bored, putting them on, doing a little fashion show for herself while screaming and making us feel guilty!
Oh, and she tried to change her own diaper again today, twice. The first time, I found the child, the diaper, and the poo in three distinct places. She clearly needs potty training, but I don't want to tackle the big bed and the big potty at the same time. Can you really blame me?

Don't worry. It will only be five more years until you can say, "Go to bed," and they just will. Having a 7-year-old is awesome.
That's so scary that she fell out of bed. It sounds like you are doing a good job at training her to stay in her bed. It always seems like it will never work, but after a few days (weeks?) they get the picture. Good luck.
I think that's exciting that she is starting to show an interest in potty training, mine still seems oblivious to any of it so it will be a while before we're done with diapers.
Wow, she is sooooo big!
I will just say good luck. At least she's adorable.
Love the picture! (We'd like to see more...hint, hint, hint! haha)
Very smart to get her out of the crib and on to the mattress.
She is still a favorite around our house. There are those baby net prisons that keep them from climbing out of a crib. A little dear, but I've heard they are worth it.
